About Sylvia Kay

Hi. My name is Sylvia Kay – I am glad you found my website – welcome und hereinspaziert!

I started working with metals in 2013. It started by taking a single chain making class at a local library. From there it just took some easy steps to learn soldering, forming and forging. I quickly became fascinated by the many ways you can take a piece of metal and turn it into something beautiful. Soon after I started designing pieces, I wanted to wear but could not find anywhere. I started Sylvia Kay Jewelry after friends and people on the streets started complimenting on my pieces ordering jewelry! The “Tree of Live” pendants, one of my signature pieces, was one of my first designs over 6 years ago. Still today, I get compliments whenever I wear it and it is still one of my best sellers.

Most pieces that you find on the website are made from sterling or fine silver, some from a mix of sterling silver and copper. All pieces are handmade by myself in my studio. It is my intent to make high quality, beautiful pieces of jewelry that are well designed and stand the test of time. Many of the techniques I use are an ancient art, some of them, like fusing or granulation, are still done much of the same way they were done thousands of years ago.

I am inspired by combing these arts and creating pieces that are statements, simple and modern, yet elegant and interesting to look at. I like the idea that people get compliments when wearing them. I genuinely love every pieces of my jewelry and I am hoping that you will too.

Thanks to my teachers who showed me this beautiful art and helped in so many ways, from the first few “melt-downs”, to teaching me new techniques and so many encouraging words for my work along the  way!
